Reducing Waste

I am conscious of reducing waste and recycling what I can to use in the studio, every scrap of clay is recycled and reclaimed to mix and wedge up ready to be used again. Oxides are used with extreme care, tools are often made from everyday items such as out of date credit cards, old spoons and sponges. Glaze is stored in recycled plastic paint pots – when I set up my studio I would often be found sifting through skips looking for these! I work my way through piles of old newspapers to use for my hand building and plastic bags to cover my work are frequently washed to reduce the dust and can be seen pegged up on my washing line in the sunshine. This is an image I took of some recycled clay that had been waiting to be reclaimed and had created its own form of beauty.
